Indoor TV (digital signage for retail) is a continuous cloud streaming service — the same requirements as watching an online video apply, only running all day, sometimes 24 hours. It freezes or pixelates for three main reasons: unstable internet (the player drops the quality when bandwidth is short), a video resolution too low for the screen size and an incompatible device. The fix is a trio of prerequisites: stable wired internet (a network cable is more reliable than Wi-Fi), resolution suited to the screen (4K as the standard on large screens) and an approved device — official Android, Android TV, Roku or Fire TV Stick.
Why the internet is prerequisite #1

The difference is time: instead of a single movie, the screen stays on throughout business hours — and in 24-hour gas stations, pharmacies and convenience stores, all day, without stopping.
That changes the requirements. A connection that holds a 40-minute video may not hold 12 or 24 hours of continuous playback without wobbling. So the rule is simple: no stable internet, no stable Indoor TV. It is the first thing to solve, before choosing the screen or the content.
Wired vs Wi-Fi: the hidden bottleneck
Wi-Fi works, but a network cable is more reliable — and the reason is rarely the plan you subscribed to. In spaces with thick walls, the router (or mesh) signal simply does not get through: one of the hosts of the podcast that inspired this content recalls that in a 280 m² property with a thick wall, the signal would not reach the other side.
The most common bottleneck, though, is the router itself. You can have a 1 Gbps plan and still receive only 300–400 Mbps over Wi-Fi, because the device's wireless antenna is weaker than its wired port. The cable delivers the full bandwidth straight to the TV.
The World Cup analogy: why the image pixelates
When the internet cannot sustain the needed bandwidth, the player does not freeze right away: first it lowers the quality automatically to avoid stopping. The result is a pixelated, blocky image — the same effect as watching a live World Cup match on weak internet, when the player's face turns into a mosaic.
On Indoor TV, this detail matters: here what counts is image quality, not latency. A few seconds of delay in a content playlist is irrelevant — nobody notices. Pixelation, on the other hand, is noticed instantly and projects a poor image of the store. That is why the focus is stable bandwidth, not record speed.
The right resolution for the screen size
The bigger the TV, the higher the resolution of the video you send needs to be. Full HD on an 85-inch screen looks visibly blocky up close, because the same number of pixels is stretched over a much larger area. The practical recommendation:
- 4K as the standard for large screens (65 inches or more).
- 8K for very large screens or installations where the audience stands very close.
- Full HD only works well on smaller screens.
And this starts before the screen: at capture. If the video will run on a large screen, record with a phone or camera capable of the required resolution. You cannot "create" sharpness later — footage shot at low resolution stays blocky no matter how big the TV is.
Compatible devices (and the lifesaving dongle)
The JMV Indoor app is currently approved for Android, Android TV, Roku and Fire TV Stick. Samsung and LG Smart TVs go through a slower approval process — it can take months with the manufacturer — and the native app is usually available only for 2020-onward models. An older TV, even a large, high-quality one, may simply not have the native app.
The good news is that you do not need to replace the TV. Just plug an approved Roku or Fire TV Stick dongle (around R$ 200) into the HDMI port: the app runs through the dongle, and the old Smart TV becomes just the monitor. Beware of the pirate device
An important compatibility and security warning: avoid pirate boxes and sticks. There is a real case of a retail customer with Chinese TVs running a modified Android, without the official Google Play Store — on those devices it is impossible to approve or guarantee the app works.
The recommendation is clear: use only official, legal devices — an official Roku, an official Amazon Fire TV Stick. Beyond running the app reliably, you avoid security risk and the screen dying out of nowhere because of a tampered system. An approved device is what guarantees the digital signage works all the time.
Checklist before you subscribe
Before putting an Indoor TV live, check the three technical prerequisites. Solve them, and the screen runs without freezing:
